Yacht Ownership Program

Our boat ownership program allows you to have all the advantages of charter whilst owning your very own yacht.  The scheme is simple, you purchase the boat taking advantage of paying no VAT and we charter it for you.  You will then be guaranteed 6 weeks a year on the boat to charter yourselves whilst the rest of the time receiving an income every year for charters booked by us.

No more time cleaning, maintaining your boat in the Mediterranean for those few weeks a year you manage to use the boat, this way your boat is fully maintained to the highest standards with the added bonus of no expenses on your boat at all.

What could be simpler!

See below for the relative earning potential for the different types of boat or feel free to contact the office at any time.

Don’t just take it from us, let our customers do the talking!

“Thank you for a fabulous time on your Bavaria 36, my family fully enjoyed ourselves and the small attention to detail that dealing with your company brought to the table.  We wish you every success in the future and look forward to dealing with you again in the near future. “

Frequently Asked Questions

A bit more about the scheme...
CHARTER AGENCY SERVICES We act as the central booking office and will add your yacht to our select group of charter yachts working from our dedicated base at Gouvia in Corfu offering your yacht for charter to the international market for suitably experienced sailors whilst earning you an income.   PROMOTING YOUR YACHT Your yacht will be featured with a dedicated page and details on our company website which is dedicated towards the charter market, in addition to this we will ensure that it is promoted through traditional print media and at industry events.   FLEXABILITY Naturally, we understand that each yacht and each yacht owners’ objectives and budgets vary and we will develop a charter management plan to suit you, for example although we normally suggest 5 weeks owners use although this might be varied on request, in short we will work with you to tailor any aspect to ensure that the program suits your needs.   CONTRACT HANDLING We prepare all parts of the charter agreement, of which each clearly defines the responsibilities of the yacht owner, charterer and Sail the Blue. Copies of these contracts are available for inspection by our owners.   LOCAL KNOWLEDGE With many years collective sailing experience in the local area and understanding of the local charter market we will set your yacht at the optimum charter rate to make your yacht attractive, competitive and profitable. Additionally, our Gouvia office in addition to being the main point of contact for charter clients arriving and departing your yacht offers support services for yachts in the fleet and is the main provider of our maintenance and general upkeep services.
What if i do not take my dedicated holidays?
Some times life throws a curve ball or plans do not always go to plan.  Don’t worry, if this happens we can sell your weeks that you have booked in for you.  This would then increase your income at the end of the year, so there is always a silver lining…
Booking procedures and commissions
BOOKING PROCEDURES AND COMMISSION From each booked charter week Sail the Blue retains 40% commission with the remaining 60% covering mooring and maintenance fees and the owner earning the net amount remaining. Should a charterer cancel a charter within 6 weeks of the charter date, the procedure is that charter monies are refunded to the client only if the charter dates are re-booked at a equivalent rate. If the dates are partially re-booked or at a lower rate the charter deposit is refunded on a pro-rata basis. In the event that the charter is not re-booked the full hire rate is payable and this will be considered part of the yachts normal earnings. The charter client is responsible for all expenses during the charter that are directly attributable to their usage such as mooring fees, fuel, food etc. At the start of each charter the charterer will be given the opportunity to inspect the boat with one of our handover team and note any issues, this will be repeated at disembarkation and any discrepancies not considered general wear and tear will be chargeable from the charterer.
What happens when the boat is commissioned for charter?
Depending on whether a yacht has been chartered previously will mean there are different costs involved, we provide a full inventory of charter equipment along with handling all the documentation and other fees associated with putting the boat into charter – there are no upfront costs for putting the boat into charter with us these costs are deducted from the first years earnings. We will go through the yacht with you in full and work out exactly which items it will require in order to ensure it is fully equipped and prepared for the charter fleet.
Maintenance?
Any general wear and tear or maintenance costs are deducted from the 60% share paid to the owner with the exception of any items caused by the charterer where they will become liable for any costs incurred through loss of deposit or insurance. The yacht itself will be brought ashore once a year for general inspection and overhaul of required sections – this period will also be used to conduct all yearly maintenance with a view to ensuring that the yacht is kept in proper condition ready for the season ahead with minimal interruptions.
What if I want to leave the scheme?
The minimum charter period for a yacht in the program is 5 years. When the yacht comes out of the charter program we offer a full handover scheme that includes a full clean down and decommission of the yacht from the charter fleet, if required we will be able to part exchange your boat against a new yacht to put back into the fleet or otherwise to help you sell the yacht if that is your intent.
Can I choose the specification of my new yacht?
Of course, the options that you want on your new yacht are yours to choose.  There are quite a few options available to you, so we will walk through these options with you offering our guidance on which ones will aid you in your boat to sell charters.  Nevertheless, as it is your boat when you leave the scheme all options are available to customise your boat as you see fit.
