Situated just north of Corfu town, about 20 minutes drive or taxi from the airport is Gouvia Marina. One of the premier marinas in the Ionian, and the only major marina on Corfu island, it is large, well kept marina offering berths from the very small to the extremely extravagant.
Thanks to its useful location, and ease of access from many airports it is where Sail the Blue have chosen to base ourselves to best serve our customers and look after our boats that make their holidays.
Although we know the marina very well from several years of working there we realise our visitors and friends might not be so well versed in it so a helpful run-through of the local area and services.
Most people will arrive either through the airport or the ferry terminal, both located in Corfu town, in both cases there are car hire locations and taxis available. The marina itself is located about 20 minutes drive North of the town and is accessed through the small village of Kontokali just off the highway. There is a narrow drive down to the marina and then after passing security plenty of space for car parking.
A taxi from the airport should cost around €25.00 and will know how to find the marina.
At the marina there are good shopping facilities, there is a small supermarket just within the marina, which sells your day-to-day requirements and then a larger supermarket just a short 2 minute walk outside the main entrance where we would recommend stopping to stock up for the week!
There are also a number of chandlers in the marina and in Kontokali just outside the main gate, if you have forgotten something then the best option is to ask our Sail the Blue ground crew, who will be able to assist or make a recommendation.
There is a Pharmacy in Corfu town or in Gouvia villa, remember you will sometimes need your EHIC card and I.D. so its best to take this with you.
Corfu town itself has good shopping and you can find the majority of items you might require there.
There are a number of restaurants and bars in Gouvia marina and in the two neighbouring villages, Kontokali and Gouvia.
The Blue bar on the corner of the main row of shops is particularly popular but all of the bars and restaurants we have sampled always leave us surprised. We would always recommend to try the chefs recommendations of salad or fresh fish depending on what they have in.
If you want to venture out of the marina to one of the two villages you will discover Kontokali offers Navigators bar, a popular bar with good ‘pub’ style food alongside number of local taverna, whereas if you walk to the far end of the marina and to Corfu village (about a 10-15minute walk) you will find a livelier scene with a good number of bars and a number restaurants.
Located just behind the Blue Bar there are is a swimming pool, it is open during daylight hours most days and as a marina user you are free to use it as you please.
There are many other facilities and activities available at the marina, ask about them with the Sail the Blue ground crew who will be happy to direct you, additionally if the weather is not good for sailing they can help suggest excursions to other parts of the island as you want.
And remember, if there’s something you can’t find or need a hand with, just ask one of our ground crew, who’ll be happy to help you!
